For a gold-tone stainless steel sculpture, we agree the base metal, surface texture and colour together. Gold can be applied over a reflective or textured surface, so a colour name alone does not describe the finished result. We make finish samples on request and have them approved before production.
Our preferred process for gold, rose gold and coloured stainless steel is titanium PVD coating, which gives richer colour than spray coating. Coloured work can also be spray coated. The useful starting point is the effect you want: a reflective gold form, a directional brushed surface, or a combination of finishes across the sculpture.
Separate the metal from the colour
When you ask for a gold sculpture, tell us whether you mean a gold-coloured surface on stainless steel or a different base material. We keep that distinction clear in the project description. For gold-tone stainless steel, the colour treatment and the stainless steel underneath are separate choices that need to be recorded together.
Our standard for mirror-polished work is 316L, indoors and outdoors. We can use 304 on request for budget-sensitive projects. If your designer has specified a grade, include it in the brief rather than leaving it implied by the colour reference. Our 304 and 316L material guide explains that decision in more detail.
Decide what should happen beneath the colour
We offer mirror, brushed and sandblasted surfaces. These give you different ways to describe the appearance you want before discussing gold or another colour. Mirror brings reflections into the work. Brushed finish gives a visible direction to the surface. Sandblasting offers a matte direction. We can also discuss different finishes on different parts.
For a curved gold sculpture, identify whether the reflection is part of the artwork or whether you want attention to stay on its outline and texture. Tell us which faces will be most visible and which details should stand out. That makes the finish conversation specific to the form, rather than a choice between colour names on a list.

If you are still deciding between the surface types, use our mirror and brushed finish comparison. Here, the next step is to define the colour and finish combination you want us to sample.
Use a colour reference to start the discussion
Send a reference and explain what you like about it. You might want the warmth of the gold, the softer appearance of a brushed area, or the way a coloured mirror surface changes with the surroundings. Separate those preferences so that we know which part of the reference is essential to the design.
It also helps to identify what should remain silver, where gold should begin and end, and whether the base should match the main form. Mark these areas on the drawing or model. If the work includes several elements, label each element clearly instead of assuming that every visible part receives the same treatment.
A reference and an approved sample serve different purposes. The reference communicates the direction; the sample gives both sides a surface to discuss before production. Record the selected sample with the corresponding material, texture and colour description, so the design team and our workshop are working toward the same result.
Consider gold, rose gold and coloured PVD
Our colour options include gold, rose gold and other colours. We prefer titanium PVD coating for these finishes because it gives richer colour than spray coating. If the project brief calls for a sprayed colour instead, tell us at the outset so that the process is part of the discussion.
For a multi-coloured design, explain the intended colour areas and how they relate to the shape. A single colour across the form and a changing colour effect are different visual directions. Include your priorities in the sample request and ask us to review the proposed result with you before production.

Make the finish sample request useful
We make finish samples to the customer’s requirements, with approval from both sides before production. Tell us which combination needs to be reviewed. If you are comparing alternatives, describe the difference you want to resolve rather than requesting an undefined collection of gold samples.
Use the following notes to prepare the request:
- Base material: the specified stainless steel grade, or a request to discuss it.
- Surface: mirror, brushed, sandblasted or a clearly marked combination.
- Colour: gold, rose gold or another colour direction, supported by your reference.
- Application areas: the body, base and details that receive each finish.
- Review: who will approve the sample and which design decision the sample needs to resolve.
Keep comments tied to the specific sample. For example, distinguish a request to change the colour from a request to change the underlying texture. Those are separate decisions. Clear comments help us discuss the next sample or the approved finish without losing the original design intention.
Bring the setting into the approval
Tell us where the sculpture will be installed and what will surround it. Include whether it is indoors or outdoors, the intended viewing directions and the nearby materials. For mirror work, the surroundings form part of the reflection, so they belong in the design brief alongside the colour.
When reviewing a sample, consider it beside the materials selected for the space and under the intended lighting where possible. Note whether the colour, texture or reflection is the part that needs adjustment. We use that information to discuss the finish with you before the surface is approved for production.
Also identify any planned sections and visible joins on the model. We fully weld our seams and polish them into the surface. For large works, the assembly approach belongs in the fabrication discussion alongside the finish, so the description of the finished artwork and the production plan stay connected.
FAQ
Does a gold appearance mean the sculpture is solid gold or brass?
No. This article concerns a gold-coloured finish on stainless steel. We specify the stainless steel underneath and the colour treatment separately. Put both in the approved description so that a colour reference is not mistaken for a material specification.
Can we request rose gold or another colour?
Yes. We offer gold, rose gold and coloured finishes, with titanium PVD as our preferred approach. Coloured work can also be spray coated. Send the intended colour direction and surface texture so we can discuss a finish sample.
What do we need to approve before production?
Agree the base material, underlying surface, colour and the areas where each finish applies. Finish samples are available on request and are approved before production. Keep the approved sample connected to the drawing or model that identifies those areas.
Discuss your coloured sculpture
Explore our mirror stainless steel fabrication, then send us your design and finish references. Include the dimensions, location and the colour decisions you want to work through. We can discuss the form, material and sample together before fabrication.
